Description du poste bénévole

The mission of Chinatown Youth Initiatives (CYI) is to empower New York City youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the needs of Chinatowns, Asian Americans, and other underrepresented communities. By providing a safe and supportive environment, CYI works to build a legacy of young leaders by strengthening awareness of community issues through project initiatives.

CYI's Annual Chinatown Beautification Day (CBD) and Youth Conference is a weekend event for high school students to explore leadership and community. Through a full day of workshops around leadership, community involvement, environmental awareness and more, high school youth are provided knowledge, tools, and encouragement to create change in their communities. The conference is followed by a day-long clean-up event, where over 200 volunteers are recruited to physically clean up the streets of New York City's Chinatown as well as demonstrate how much they care for their community.

Position: Program Advisor, Chinatown Beautification Day

Reports To: Current Program Advisor, and Board of Directors Term:

Starts Spring 2013 (one year minimum)

Job Description: The Program Advisor serves to provide mentorship and support to Youth Coordinators throughout the planning year. S/he provides flexible and adaptive leadership coaching to the Coordinators, depending on their needs and articulated goals, in order to effectively execute the final conference and clean-up day in August. Potential tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Hiring the coordinating team
  • Facilitating team building meetings
  • Building connections with other organizations
  • Keeping coordinators on schedule for a successful weekend
  • Helping to write the Board Report

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Chinatown Youth Initiatives
  • High school/college experience<br>  Familiarity with Chinatown or similar communities.
  • Commitment to youth leadership development, education, Asian American issues, and/or nonprofit work
  • Strong project management, public speaking, facilitation, and/or organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work in an intense start-up environment and availability to put in long hours as work demands

Additional information:

  • Candidates will be contacted for a phone or in-person interview
  • If chosen, you will be working with the previous advisor to transition you into the advisor position in the months leading up to the summer
