In the hills around Badgaon village there is a community of gypsies with little or no awareness about the importance of education. Even though the government school is extremely close by and is almost free to attend, this community does not understand the value of sending children to school. These children therefore grow up with very few opportunities and a lack of knowledge about the world. Some of these children are now in their late teens and have never been to school.
Within the limits of this community, the D.A.A.N. Foundation hopes to introduce the idea of education, focusing on children in the 4 to 10 years age group. Our main focus would be on preparing them for entering main stream education. We will be working on improving their skills in Mathematics and English and also developing their creative side.
For older youth who wish to participate, there will be a separate area with a small library and computer lab where they can spend time in an atmosphere which supports education. In this environment they can help one another, share knowledge, and understand the importance of education.
We are seeking motivated volunteers who are interested in participating in this program. Specfically we are in need of teacher assistants who can help out in the day to day activites of the youth education center. This involves working one on one with the kids as well as creating and implementing new educational activites.
