Mission bénévole posté(e) par African Orphanage
Publié le : 27 août 2013
The orphanage is situated separate to school where our children attend, and as a volunteer you will be expected to assist the teacher with classroom work. However, spending the entire day with the children is one of the most rewarding experiences for a volunteer, and the bonds you will make will endure long after your placement is over. During classroom hours you'll be as helping other volunteers to teach a primary curriculum of English, Maths, Science, Religion and Social Studies. Volunteers needed for nursery and primary school levels (ages 4yrs-17yrs) to teach English and other subjects. Teaching experience is not required. Your investment into the children's education will not only bring a smile to their faces, but will create a lasting constructive future for each child, their family and the society at large. Normal school hours are 8am–4pm, but we can organize for you to teach hours convenient with you.
Don't worry if you don't feel confident in a particular area, as the children will benefit from listening to you speak and construct sentences fluently in English. You will shadow a local teacher or established volunteer before taking on your own class, but after this you are free to make your classroom and lessons as creative and exciting as you can. Games and sport are another important part of school life, so be prepared to get involved with these as well!
Also, at the orphanage you would be assisting the children in learning English and other subjects such as math and science and helping the children with their homework. You can also organize tours, games, painting, singing and dancing and other activities to enhance the enjoyment and development of the children living in the orphanage.
Come join our team for whatever period convenient with you, enjoy Kenya's breathtaking scenery and beautiful culture, and leave having made a real difference and as a member of the VWC family!
Our programs are highly meaningful and in safe locations.
Program start & end date
Our volunteer programs are available all the year round, with flexible start and end dates.
Duration of placement
You can volunteer for as little as one week and still get rewarding experience, but you can stay for as long as you wish.
Work schedule & flexibility
We offer flexible work schedule where you can split your time between working on our projects and exploring other parts ofKenya.
Food & Accommodation
3 meals a day and safe accommodation are provided to all volunteers. You are welcome to stay with other volunteers at the orphanage compound or with a host family, but both places give you a chance to learn more about the Kenyan culture and language
Cost to volunteer
Volunteers are required to commit a fee of 140/week that caters for expenses of your meals, housing and support for our community projects. This is payable in cash upon arrival inKenya.
Our friendly staff will come to meet you at the airport on the day you arrive, and escort you to the airport on departure, by a car that we hire. The pre-departure information to the placement and program is done to offer volunteers to have basic knowledge of what is acceptable within the community, work type, general expectations etc.
We welcome volunteers from all over the world, regardless of their faith, age or academic backgrounds
