PAD is a social organisation that aims to improve the people's situation in Tamilnadu through various democratic and community based means. Having this goal in mind, a committed and flexible 60 member staff is operating from three field offices, which are located closely to the target communities along the coastline and catchment areas.
This project will contribute to poverty reduction through the creation of viable small businesses operated by women and youth. The Project, Empowering small and marginal farming Women and Youth Entrepreneurs for fair and higher income,will build the capacities of small entrepreneurs and engage the private sector in development. This project will promote the cooperatives among the farming women and youths to generate sustainable jobs and increased incomes. It is expected that the farming women's families will invest greater amount of resources into the health, education and well-being of their children. In the initial stages 300 women and youths of farming communities will be involved to improve their livelihoods. The project partners will develop a culture of organic farming of pepper and coffee and jointly market them. The women and youths will be organised under cooperatives and linked up with fare trade for better and fare income. Subsiquantly they will be accessed to business development services, providing a range of organic produces and products and services to enhance business opportunties, including diversification of the product lines managed by the cooperatives. The project will support the marginal farming community including landless agriculture labourers, adivasisand Palmyrah tappers who are affected strongly by the exploitation of merchants/moneylenders. The Business manager will manage and achieve the above said purpose.
