Organization Overview:

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) works with country governments and other major stakeholders in identifying the key obstacles to access and scale-up of essential health services, and developing sustainable strategies to overcome them.

Program Overview:

At the request of our partner governments, and given the current global funding landscape, CHAI is increasing technical support through a Sustainable Health Financing Program that assists these governments in overcoming financing barriers to providing health services over the short and long term. To address these funding challenges, CHAI is working hand in hand with our government counterparts by identifying funding inefficiencies and improvements in allocation of resources across the health sector, exploring innovative financing mechanisms to mobilize additional resources domestically and internationally, and supporting health financing planning processes more broadly.

Summary of Position:

The Health Financing Volunteer will be based in Washington DC and help execute this work on a part time basis as a member of the global team that oversees country level technical operations and donor reporting. The Health Financing Volunteer will provide critical support to the global team in moving forward qualitative, technical aspects of country programs on a day-to-day basis, and be tasked with discrete organizational and operational duties to help ensure that activities are running smoothly.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on health financing mechanisms, approaches, and processes
  • Maintain a web- based repository of health financing information
  • Prepare bi-weekly technical updates including brief summaries of news, research, and other publications related to global health financing
  • Attend relevant events in the DC area, and provide brief summary reports
  • Identify opportunities and fora for dissemination of program-generated results and learning
  • Assist with report writing and coordinating inputs across teams for global deliverables
  • Potentially assist with basic data cleaning and preparation for analysis
  • Support administrative tasks, note taking, and other ad-hoc tasks, as requested

Volunteers should expect to work between 20-30 hours per week, and do not receive any compensation.

Qualifications:

  • Strong research skills and ability to synthesize information clearly and concisely
  • Understanding of the current global health context and key international players (USAID, Global Fund, World Bank, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree plus relevant professional experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and an ability to build professional relationships
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Ability to work independently on complex projects
  • Ability to react quickly to ad-hoc requests while managing an existing workload
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word

Advantages:

  • Experience working in developing countries, particularly on health related issues
