Description du poste bénévole

About the Day: On Monday, January 21, 2013 more than 1000 community and corporate volunteers will make MLK Jr. Day a "Day On, Not a Day Off" as they revitalize the campus of a Title I school in Los Angeles. This national holiday empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a beloved community.

What to Expect: Because research has shown that children learn better in an environment in which they feel proud and comfortable, this event will include beautification elements like creating murals, painting school buildings and grounds, planting flowers, shrubs and creating an outdoor learning environment. Additionally, the focus of the school that has been selected for this event is math education and so volunteers will be engaging in math-themed projects including the opportunity to participate in an interactive chess training and tournament with the children so that they can build their critical thinking skills.

Volunteer Projects: Volunteers will transform the grounds and buildings at a LAUSD Middle School in Glassell Park, participating in projects that will include planting and landscaping, painting, light construction, gardening work and much more!

Check-in: Please arrive at 8:00 am.

Teams/Groups: Volunteers are assigned to projects on a first-come, first-served basis. We cannot guarantee that your group will be able to volunteer for the same project. To increase your chance of volunteering with your group, please come early and arrive together. How to Sign Up Your Team. -Our corporate sponsors help make this event possible! Fiscal sponsorship is available for corporate teams who would like to volunteer together

Age Requirements: Volunteers for this project must be at least 5 years of age.

Minors: Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian an L.A. Works Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors. Volunteers under the age of 14 must have a parent/guardian with them.

Dress Code: Casual attire and sneakers (sturdy closed-toe shoes). Please wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Wear sunscreen, a hat and bring your own eco-friendly water bottle if you have one.
