Depending on your interest and time availability apart from orphanage assistance you will be teaching at school. The age range of the students will vary, but generally fall between 6 to 16 years of age and have basic level of English you will teach for anywhere between 2 to 4 hours each day for six days a week (Saturday is the day off). This will vary from school to school. You will be encouraged to work with local teachers to develop new teaching practices and help with their conversational English to enable them to teach English in the future.
PROJECT LOCATIONS. The Hands for Help Nepal offers locations in rural, urban and semi urban location in different parts of the country. Our urban placements are located in the major cities which are a transit point of the people from throughout Nepal. The urban placements are famous in terms of archeological structure as well as naturally beauty.
The urban locations' distance from Kathmandu • Kathmandu: The capital city of Nepal with approx 4 million population. • Pokhara: The second largest city, the major tourist destination, 200km . • Chitwan: The lowland area, with Chitwan National Park, 185 Kilometer • Dharan: The city of ex-Gurkhas, eastern part of Nepal.
Our rural projects are located in countryside in lowland, hill area and mountain. Most of the inhabitants are indigenous from tribal groups such as Sherpas, Tamangs, Gunrungs, Magar etc. These settings are treasures of natural beauty with rain forest, tranquil gorges and terraces and exhilarating world famous High Mountain. The places distance from Kathmandu. • Lamjung: 6 hours bus ride and 3 hours walk. • Dhading: 4 hours bus ride • Sindhupalchowk 3 hours drive and 2 hours walk • Mustang: 7 hours bus ride then 3 days walk, possible to fly from • Chitwan: 6 hour overland • Kavre: 2 hours bus ride • Kaski 7 hours bus ride and 1 hour walk • Tanhun: 5 hour bus ride.
WHERE TO STAY? Volunteer will be staying either with host family or in a hostel nearby project. Hostel is available in some urban locations. There is no option could be made apart form host family in rural locations. If volunteer prefer to live with host family whether they are working for urban location then that is arranged. Our host families are experienced in providing hospitable services to our volunteers. They have been involved in this job since or before our inception, the entire volunteer had wonderful time with host families. This is a good opportunities to observe unique culture and languages. There is at least a one family member who speaks English that help you to communicate with others.
WHAT TO EAT? During placement you will have locally available foods such as Dal (lentil soup), bhaat (rice) and vegetable with tart flavor pickle two times a day, 8:30AM and 7:30 PM. There will be a snack in afternoon which you can expect beaten rice, puff corn and roasted Soybean etc. Sometimes host families may offer different items such as noodles, meat (if you are a non-vegetarian).
HOW MUCH IT COSTS? We offer one of the most affordable program fees in this competitive and expensive time. Compared to many international and some local agencies, our fees our substantially lower. But we are committed IN providing excellent, quality volunteer programs that efficiently use the amount we receive.
The program fee covers 1. Meal and accommodation (Nepali standard) with host family during placement and training. 2. Transportation (pick up and drop off to/from airport and placement) 3. Intensive training and orientation appropriate to the length of your stay 4. Stationery during training and volunteering 5. Supervision 6. First day sight seeing in Kathmandu
The fee does not cover 1. Insurance (medical, travel, personal belongings) 2. Flight or land transportation from your country to Nepal 3. Personal expenses (ie. gift items, beverage, water bottle) 4. Trekking, rafting, other adventure activities 5. Visa renewal and obtaining 6. Other expenses in incidental cases
