About Blessings for Brazil (B4B)

Blessings for Brazil, Inc. is a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of Brazilian children by supporting teachers, projects, and schools with micro-level grants and resources. They include providing micro-level educational grants for teachers; providing support for local community organizational sustainability projects; providing educational materials to enhance instruction; and, supporting special projects.

What is the Managing Executive Director's (MED) role?

B4B is seeking a MED to lead and oversee the day to day operation of B4B. This person will report to the Board, and be afforded the opportunity to co-develop a restructuring plan to further B4B's mission and activities. Through the recruitment process, the MED will develop a proposal, and pending the Board's approval, implement the proposed ideas and report his or her accomplishments and actions. The MED is invited to manage B4B's restructuring activities. We seek an MED who is capable to oversee and transition B4B to an organization with paid positions. The MED position is a volunteer position; however, we welcome the individual to acquire funding to transition the position to an employed opportunity.

Desired Skills and Attributes

Our ideal candidate would be/have most of the following areas:

  • Enthusiastic about helping B4B's missions and activities.
  • Serve as an ambassador of B4B's brand, and able to speak on behalf of B4B in a variety of settings.
  • Lead fundraising activities; manage accounting; and/or communication/public relations.
  • A team player, community-minded, and relatable to all members of the B4B team; and,
  • Capable of addressing international/intercultural issues that include international education, socio-economic development, and the empowerment for disenfranchised communities.

Optional Skills and Attributes

  • A sphere of influence in the Brazilian community (in the U.S. and/or Brazil).
  • Knowledgeable of Portuguese.

Board Duties

Leadership Responsibility: Lead the work of B4B team members and provide mission-driven leadership and strategic governance.

Fundraising: The MED is expected to make B4B a philanthropic priority. This includes making annual gifts that reflect that priority, and soliciting funding.

Key Activities for 2013-2014

The MED will implement ideas, pending board approval. This may entail the following process:

  • Organizational awareness phase (Working closely with the Executive Director and Board members)
  • Proposal development and board approval phase
  • Implementation phase (Recruitment, Development, and fund acquisition).

Each phase will vary with time, and may span several months.

General Activities

MED will develop activities, recruit volunteers; oversee fundraising activities; head public relations; acquire additional funding; participate and lead meetings; develop organizational development activities; and serve, as needed.
