IEFT has an open position for a volunteer entrepreneurship educator and micro-finance accountant starting as soon as possible.

IEFT is a registered non-profit organization that collaborates with rural communities in northern Tanzania to provide quality, affordable secondary education to indigenous children. IEFT operates the Orkeeswa High School, which is populated by motivated students and an upbeat and welcoming staff. The school is in place to influence a rural corner of northern Tanzania through the education of its youth.

Job Description:

IEFT is looking for an energetic person to volunteer as an entrepreneurship educator and micro- finance Accountant for the Rural Entrepreneurship Development initiative at Orkeeswa High School. We are looking for applicants who are creative and adaptable, with the vision to take a developing program to a higher level. The program will include a combination of classroom based entrepreneurship education with applied field business development. Following the course the students will be able to apply to fund their business startup through the school. The goal of their entrepreneurship development is to be profitable enough to save towards their university studies, and develop the capacity to thrive under high unemployment and limited financial resources.

Responsibilities:

Educator:

  • Guide multiple classes per week through an entrepreneurship course.
  • Adapt an American entrepreneurship curriculum to local circumstances.
  • Organize field trips and guest speakers for supplemental information.
  • Work closely with a Tanzanian partner, and a dynamic international staff.

Micro-Finance Accountant:

  • Evaluate and fund student businesses proposals.
  • Monitor progress of start-ups and solicit advice continually.
  • Coordinate and supervise the implementation of the project activities.
  • Assist students in acquiring a banking and savings account in the local area.
  • Develop incentives for student saving.

Qualifications:

  • Strong command of the English Language
  • Commitment of at least one year
  • Adaptability to challenging living and working conditions in a developing country
  • Diplomacy, good judgment and ability to work across different cultures
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and accuracy

This position may include a small stipend to cover modest living expenses for qualified applicants.
