Community Enterprise Solutions is seeking an individual with experience in community tourism, hospitality, and restaurant services to support a social enterprise, Turismo Ixil, in the rural highland town of Nebaj, Guatemala, for a minimum of 6 months. This year, we would like for someone to work together with our staff, bringing their experience in tourism/hospitality to add a new perspective and new ideas to Turismo Ixil. In particular, we are looking for support in the following areas:
1. Work together with staff at El Descanso Restaurant to improve service
2. Work with staff at Guias Ixiles to improve service, materials, and publicity
Compensation:
Housing will be provided live in the town center of Nebaj. The accomodations are in a local hostel that includes a kitchen with refrigerator, stovetop, and basic pots, pans, and utensils, as well as hot water showers and a living room with television. The volunteer will be resposible for their own food and other living expenses, however all work expenses will be covered by the organization.
Time Commitment:
Minimum six months, beginning between January to May 2013
Job Requirements:
Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills
Self-motivation and ability to take initiative and ownership of work
Willingness to live and work in rural Latin America
Willingness to learn, co-exist and work in a new culture
Desire to effect positive change in rural communities in Latin America
Advanced Spanish fluency (English fluency is preferred but not required)
Preferred Experience:
Experience in hospitality/restaurant/tourism work
Experience in graphic design, interior design, and/or photography
