Becoming a Community Forester is a great way for anyone who cares about community, social justice, equity, the environment, health, or urban greening to be actively involved in making a difference in Denver.
As a Community Forester, you become part of a distinguished group of high-level volunteers who serve their community by leading efforts to help restore, enhance, and protect our city's trees. Community Foresters and Tree Stewards receive rich training in the field of urban forestry and are empowered to lead and participate in tree planting and care projects in Denver neighborhoods and for The Park People, Denver's Forestry Division, and the Mile High Million tree planting initiative.

Our volunteers are passionate about trees, the environment, improving our communities, and helping others. They are positive and personable, able to interact with others positively and constructively, as well as flexible and adaptable in the face of hiccups and challenges that may arise.
Requirements:
No previous experience is necessary to become a Community Forester or a Tree Steward. Volunteers receive training through the Community Forester workshop series.
The Community Forester Program is designed to educate a skilled pool of volunteer forest caretakers and provides rich learning opportunities in the form of 5 workshops:
Trees 101 (prerequisite for other workshops) $20
Sat, March 2, 9am-1pm
Tree Planting and Health $20
Sat, April 6, 9am-1pm
Tree Pruning $20
Sat, May 4, 9am-1pm
Tree Identification and Inventory $20
Sat, June 1, 9am-1pm
Volunteer Leadership & Management (optional) $20
Sat, July 13, 9am-12pm
To become a Community Forester, participants must complete the 4 mandatory workshops and may choose to attend the optional Volunteer Leadership & Management workshop free of charge after completing all other workshops.
Individuals who do not attend the full workshop series but attend Trees 101 and at least one other workshop receive the title of "Tree Steward" and are able to volunteer in support roles.
Fees cover the cost of materials. Fees may be waived upon request for individuals for whom the fee represents a financial hardship.
The first workshop in the series is March 2. Registration deadline: Feb 27. Space is limited. Participants must be at least 16 years of age.
