Jewish Family Service of San Diego's Refugee Resettlement Department resettles more than 200 refugee families a year from around the world. Friendly Match volunteers can be the key to their success in their new home. A Friendly Match volunteer welcomes a newly arrived refugee family into their new community, bridges the gap between the newcomers and host communities, connects refugee families to community resources and opportunities, and aims to promote refugee self-sufficiency. This is a hands-on experience which may lead to the development of a life-long friendship with a refugee family.
Volunteers will be matched with a refugee family, (the main population we currently are working with are Burmese refugees) and assist them in orienting to their new lives. We provide training, ESL lessons, and accompany you on your first visit with your family. Provide international human aid from San Diego- volunteer today!
