Working in Community Health is extremely rewarding and we are currently in need of volunteer interpreters. If you want to give back to the community, and are available several hours per week, a volunteer position at Fair Haven Community Health Center might be for you!!!
The volunteer interpreter functions as part of a health care team, meeting the needs of patients, staff and consumers and assists patients and staff with accurate and culturally competent medical interpretation.
Requirements
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Oral and written proficiency in English
- Possess a pleasant manner and professional attitude
- Understand & address the patient' s needs in an efficient and friendly manner
- Consecutive interpretation between patients and staff, predominately Primary Care Providers and Nurses
- Certified interpreter or previous experience interpreting in a medical setting a plus
- Knowledge and comprehension of medical terminology in Spanish and English
- Awareness of ethical issues and standards related to interpreting
- Ability to anticipate, comprehend and assist to reconcile potential cultural barriers to communicating concepts in healthcare
- Ability to cope with sensitive subject matter
- High level of audio acuity
Commitment: At least 2-4 hours per week 2-3 times a week for 6 months
Current Need: DAYTIME AVAILABILITY (8:30-5:00)
