What do volunteers do?

Volunteers are always welcome at KAT. Volunteers with medical backgrounds or training are always in high demand. However, if you do not have any such background, there are other things KAT needs help with.

Non-technical (no medical background) volunteers are needed to help do several things including:

• Play with dogs
• Brush dogs
• Walk dogs
• Socialize dogs
• Help clean
• Help raise funds through fundraising
• Miscellaneous tasks
• Other helpful skills include photography, computer skills ect..

It may not sound like much, but when there are over 30 dogs who want nothing more than your attention, you'll have plenty to do. Even these small things help the dogs and employees.

Also, it is important to note:

You are still free to do as your wish with your days in Nepal. If you want to take the day off from volunteering at KAT to ride around the city, this is totally understandable. If you wish to volunteer for only half of the day, this is also acceptable.

ICV Nepal may be providing you with opportunities to volunteer, but we are not your mother. Feel free to plan your days according to your wants and needs, just make sure volunteering is still a priority.

Are they any requirements for volunteering at KAT?

The only requirement for volunteers is that you either come vaccinated against rabies or are prepared to pay (around $40) to be vaccinated in Nepal. This is for safety reasons only.

Where will I stay?

The KAT Centre does not have quarters for volunteers to sleep or stay in. While you spend your day hours at KAT, you are free to choose where you wish to stay. You can do homestay, sleep at a hotel, or stay with staff members of ICV Nepal.

What will I eat?

As with most placements, the there is one meal served per day at the KAT Centre for all volunteers and staff members. Typical Nepali Dhal and Bhat makes up most of the meals. If you will also being doing a homestay at the same time, they will be providing the meals. If you are staying on your own or in a hotel, you will likely need to eat out or cook for yourself.

Where is this placement available?

The KAT Centre is located inside Kathmandu Valley. It is slightly out of the city, which can be quite a refreshing breath from the busy city.
