Have a passion for fashion and design? Do you love working with beautiful, handmade bags and products? Want to make a difference in the lives of incarcerated women and rural female weavers? Ruraq Maki is looking for a volunteer to help us design beautiful, fair trade handbags. This is a wonderful opportunity for those new to fashion and design who are looking for a way to build their portfolio.
Ruraq Maki is a non-profit dedicated to creating educational and economic opportunities that will empower low-income artisan communities. Currently we operate two programs in South America. The Yanamilla Prison Project, which assists incarcerated women in Peru generate income through the development and sale of their products, and Manos Independientes, creating economic opportunities to rural female Bolivian weavers living in extreme poverty.
Ruraq Maki's products are hand woven and embroidered, use traditional material, and women are paid a fair wage for their work. All proceeds from the sale of our products go back to supporting the projects. Additionally, Ruraq Maki offers free, yearly education workshops to both communities.

This volunteer opportunity is a creative and collaborative one! You will work closely with the executive director and board members to brainstorm and execute ideas. Ruraq Maki is committed to horizontal and collaborative decision making- to that end this is not a volunteer opportunity where you will be told what to do. We expect you to bring and share your ideas and experience!
