Volunteers are needed to help our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income residents. As a VITA Tax volunteer for the AAA you will receive training to help prepare basic tax returns for refugees and other residents of San Diego in need of assistance. Upon completion of the free training, all volunteers will receive a certification from IRS.
Key Responsibilities include:
Impact and Sustained Outcomes: You will have a direct impact on the lives of working individuals and families and the communities in which they live. By helping working individuals and families claim every tax benefit they're entitled to, you can help boost a family's yearly income by up to 35 percent.
Training and Support: You will receive detailed training and guidance from the Resettlement department to become a certified VITA. Training is free and the subject matter includes free basic income tax law for federal and state such as Forms 1040, and 1040EZ and related schedules such as A, B, and C-EZ. The entire course takes approximately 20 hours to complete, with a self paced online certification test at the end.
Commitment: four hours a week between January 1 and April 15
