Worldreader is a global non-profit headquartered in San Francisco and with offices in Europe and across Africa. Our mission is to make digital books available to children, families and communities so millions of people can improve their lives. As of June 2013, we've put over 662,008 e-books – and the life-changing, power-creating ideas contained within them – into the hands of 4,300 children in sub-Saharan Africa. Since our founding in 2010, Worldreader has emerged as the global leader in Mobile Learning. Today, we are scaling rapidly.
Our social innovation is creating a new marketplace for learning across the developing world, in which learning can take place both in formal educational settings via our e-reader programs, and in informal educational settings via our digital book-reading platform for cellular phones.
Our Worldreader Mobile Learning platform for cellular phones is accessed in 200 countries by 2.6 million users to date, and our e-reader programs currently operating in schools and libraries in 9 countries in sub-Saharan Africa including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe (and soon expanding to Ethiopia and Nigeria).
