Listening for Social Change
World Pulse is seeking volunteers for our upcoming Voices of Our Future Application and our Digital Action Campaign on the theme of Girls' Access to Education. By signing up to become a Listener, you are helping to lift and unite grassroots women leaders' voices to accelerate their impact for the world.
What is Voices of Our Future?
Voices of Our Future is an online training program in new media, citizen journalism, and empowerment for emerging grassroots women leaders. As a Listener during the month-long Application period, you will be helping to select thirty applicants to become Correspondents and who will take part in the full five-month long program starting in June 2013. Through this program, women will gain the tools and knowledge to vocalize and actualize their visions for change.
You will bear witness to personal stories of struggle and triumph, and hear first-hand the next generation of solutions for our world's problems. And most importantly, you will become part of a global network of women supporting each other and creating change.
What is a Digital Action Campaign?
With an online, global community of grassroots women leaders, World Pulse has developed a methodology to rally their voices around the issues that they say matter most. Our digital action campaigns elicit powerful content from women on the ground, strengthen their confidence, and ensure that influencers and powerful institutions hear their stories.
You will be asked to read and comment upon a series of short, 500-700 word submissions from participants on the theme of Girls' Access to Education. Listeners also help select the most outstanding stories to be published in an e-magazine featuring content from this campaign.
Criteria and Commitments for Listeners:
- Regular and reliable access to the Internet.
- Attend a one hour training conference call in the month of March.
- Ability to devote 2-3 hours per week to reading and commenting upon community submissions for Voices of our Future Application:April 2nd-May 6thand/or Girls Campaign: April 11th-May 23rd.(Hours are flexible.)
- Familiarity with online forums.
- Ability to provide encouraging, constructive comments on participants' assignments and stories.
- Heartfelt desire to listen to the stories of women from around the world, and become an insightful and supportive member of our global network of women.
