Safe Passage/Camino Seguro is a not-for-profit organization working in Guatemala to empower the poorest at-risk children, whose families live in the Guatemala City garbage dump community, by creating opportunities and fostering dignity through the power of education.
Want to get involved?
Be a classroom teacher's assistant in either our Early Childhood Development Center (ages 1 through 6) or our Educational Reinforcement Center (ages 7 through 22) . Assist teachers in all daily activities within and outside the classroom. Tasks include helping the kids with homework, homework reinforcement, assisting during English class, and extra-curricular activities.
Where do volunteers live?
Volunteers live in Antigua, a beautiful colonial city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and travel by private bus to our site in Guatemala City.
We require a minimum commitment of 5 weeks and love when volunteers can stay even longer! Basic Spanish ability required!
Looking for a longer-term opportunity?
We also have positions in our English Program, Creative Expression Program, and Tutoring Program that require 6 month commitments and offer a housing allowance. These positions require intermediate to advanced Spanish speaking abilities.
