Teaching at School in Nepal

In this program, volunteers teach different subjects such as English, Science, Maths, Social Science, Environment Science and so on depending on school curriculum (primarily English) at government school. Depending on the school, volunteers will either teach independently in class or with another Nepali helper teacher. Volunteers teach between two to four hours of 45-minute classes each period, six days a week (Saturday is holiday). Volunteers generally create programs to stimulate classroom lessons and improve students' conversational English though different teaching methods. Volunteers engaging in this program will have some guidance of effective teaching in Nepali style although the volunteers can demonstrate new model of their own teaching style if that is applicable in Nepali government schools. Prior to the placement, volunteers will receive Nepali language and cultural training. During their placement, volunteers will stay with a local traditional Nepali family located close to the school. After completing the volunteer job at government schools in Nepal, volunteer, students and school staffs can stay keep in touch through various contact information source so that the next time the school's family would welcome again to volunteering at schools which make lasting relationship among each other.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

• -Teaching and tutoring children in English, Computer or volunteer can choose any subject in which they are good at.
• -Developing a creative environment for children through crafts, games and sports.
• -Organizing hygiene awareness or cleanliness and sanitation program for students.
• -Teach English (2-3 hours a day) in the school.
• -Organizing games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative activities.t
• -Taking kids on educational tours and organize seminar/presentation about new places may be of your own country. Helping kids to do homework, and help them to increase their extra knowledge besides they get academically.

Additional Information

Skills required:You must have good English (but not of very high standard). If volunteer have any related experience in teaching will be given plus point. Volunteers must observe the rules and regulations of the learning center and be respectful as well as polite to the teachers, club members and local people.

Age range: 18 and over.

Start Dates: Flexible i.e. the minimum time for the program is 2 weeks and the maximum length of stay is 5 months.

Accommodations: – Volunteers will have to stay at Nepali home with traditional Nepali families (host family). The accommodation is typically Nepali and based by Western standards, often with traditional Nepali toilets and showers.

Food: – Volunteers are provided with 3 meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner).

Suggestion: Volunteers can bring along teaching materials such as picture books, grammar book, dictionary, instruments, flash cards, art supplies, toy games and songs, globe, map, country flag or anything volunteer wants to bring.

Terminal: Kathmandu, Nepal-Tribhuvan International Airport.

Project Location: Tropical village not far from large town with all basic facilities.(Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara -If needed we can arrange placement all over Nepal)

In Country Support: 24-hour support provided by our local staff. You will be provided with the contact details of the local coordinator and staff that will be contactable 24 hrs. A day once you are in country.
