Une mission bénévole posté par Melanoma Education Foundation

Publié le : 26 nov. 2012

Description du poste bénévole

Save lives from melanoma by getting contact information for U.S. middle school and high school health/wellness teachers so the Melanoma Eduction Foundation can send them invitations to use our free, award-winning online lessons to educate themselves and their students about early self-detection of melanoma..

Over 1150 schools in all 50 states are using the lessons; student and teacher lives have been saved because of them.

The 2012 incidence of new U.S. melanoma cases is projected to be 131,800 vs. 56,000 new cases of HIV/AIDS. Melanoma is far deadlier than AIDS and is increasingly striking teens. In the mid to late twenties age group it is the most prevalent of all cancers and second only to breast cancer in women from 20 to 39. Nearly every melanoma death could have been prevented by early self-detection, when it is curable by simple excision in a dermatologists office without the need for any chemo or radiation.

The activity can be done remotely and requires only a computer with internet access, unlimited long distance phone service, and basic experience with Excel spread sheets. Availability of some time during school hours is required.

We provide volunteers with a detailed set of instructions to conduct the following steps:

1. Find school names and phone numbers for designated counties in a designated state from www.publicschoolreview.com. 2. Call the main office of each school and use a short script we provide to get the name and email address of a health teaher or Health/Physical Education department head. 3. Enter the information in an Excel spreadsheet we provide and email it to us when you are done.

We can provide a small number of schools to start so volunters can determine if the activity works for them.

This activity requires many volunteers at any location in any state.
